MICRONEEDLING with exosomes

What is Microneedling with Exosomes?

Microneedling with Exosomes is a treatment that is comparable to a vampire facial (also known as microneedling with PRP - plasma rich platelets).   However unlike with PRP, no blood draw or injection is required.   Combining exosome treatment after microneedling gives similar, if not better, results to PRP and is also considered much safer.

Exosomes contain more than 300 growth factors (PRP typically contains only 12), peptides, coenzymes, amino acids, minerals, and vitamins.    Exosomes can only be absorbed when there are punctures in the skin, such as those created during micro needling.

What are Exosomes?

Exosomes are tiny nanoparticles derived from mesenchymal stem cells.  Exosomes work by transporting growth factors, proteins, and other key ingredients to trigger the cells in the skin to repair, heal and regenerate.  When used after Microneedling, the small punctures in the skin allow for the exosomes to be absorbed, spurring production of new collagen and elastin and quicker healing of the injured area.

Exosomes versus PRP

Both Exosomes and PRP are highly effective treatments that can significantly improve the results of skin rejuvenation treatments such as micro needling.   Although both are effective, Exosomes is superior to PRP in many ways:

  • Speed of Results:  Exosomes produce results quicker, oftentimes only needling 1-2 treatments before seeing satisfactory results. PRP can take up to 3-6 treatments to achieve results.

  • Invasiveness:  PRP requires a patient's blood to be drawn and sometimes injected.  This increases side effects such as potential for infection and discomfort.  Exosomes do not require any blood to be drawn.

  • Number of Growth Factors:  Exosomes delivers up to 380 growth factors, where as PRP typically delivers up to 12.

  • Consistency of Results:  Exosomes work equally well across all individuals and age groups since the amount of growth factors, coenzymes, etc remain consistent.   PRP really depends on the health and age of the patients' blood that is drawn.  Typically those over 40 do not have as good results as someone younger.

  • Inflammation Fighting Ability:  Exosomes contain anti-inflammatory properties where as PRP does not.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling Therapy also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive painless skin-rejuvenation procedure that has been shown in studies to increase collagen production in the skin by up to 400%.

The treatment involves pricking the skin with tiny single-use sterilized needles.   It creates small superficial micro-wounds to the skin causing your body to make more collagen and elastin, which heals your skin and makes you look younger.

Microneedling results in the production of new collagen and elastin, improvement in skin tone and texture, firmness as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.

Microneedling can be used anywhere including the face and body.   The procedure typically takes between 15-40 minutes depending on the area(s) being treated and is for the most part painless.  A numbing cream is used prior to treatment to allow for optimal comfort.  Some patients describe the sensation of Microneedling as similar to a cat licking your face.

MicroNeedling FAQ

How much downtime will I experience?

There is no downtime with micro-needling however the majority of patients skin will be red and flushed for 12-24 hours after the treatment, similar to a sunburn.  Don't wear any make-up or irritating products on your skin for at least 24 hours after the treatment and avoid the sun.

Does it hurt?

Microneedling is for the most part a painless procedure.  We apply a numbing cream to your skin for 30 minutes before starting treatment so you won't feel much.   Some patients describe the sensation as similar to a cat licking your face.

How many treatments will I need?

A single treatment will make a nice change however we recommend a minimum of 4-6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart for optimal and longer term results.

Who is a good candidate?

Anyone who is in good health, wants to improve their skin imperfections and look younger is a good candidate. Unlike Plasma Fibroblast, microneedling can be performed on all skin tones.

Is it the same as the derma roller?

The derma roller functions in the same way as microneedling by creating tiny micro injuries to the skin to stimulate collagen, however we typically do not recommend the derma roller.  It is difficult to maintain consistent needle depth with the derma roller, it is difficult to sterilize and it tends to cause unnecessary skin trauma as it rolls across the skin.   You may get decent short term results with a DIY dermaroller, however you most likely won't achieve the same resulta as a professional treatment using a medical grade Microneedling Pen.

When will I see results?

Within 2 weeks you will start to see change that will continue for 3 months as new collagen is being built.  For best results a series of 4-6 treatments spaced 1 month apart is recommended.

Who will be performing the treatment?

Your treatment will be performed by a board-certified licensed acupuncturist specializing in cosmetic acupuncture.  Microneedling uses tiny needles inserted superficially into the skin similar to acupuncture.  The concept of creating small micro-wounds to stimulate healing and skin rejuvenation is actually taken from acupuncture, in which needles are used to stimulate the body to self-heal.

Are there any contraindications?

Some contraindications to Microneedling include:

  • Active Acne
  • Local infections such as warts  and herpes zoster
  • Pregnancy
  • Moderate to severe chronic skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis
  • Patients on anti-coagulant (blood thinning) medications
  • Extreme keloidal tendency
  • Patients on chemotherapy/radiation

What is the aftercare for Microneedling?
